This Place Wants To Be A Forest will be out 9/4/2026, with the lead single Intuition 8/14/2026. This music has taken a distinct acid-house turn for ambient pop songwriter Confusions / Benny Turner.
Track 1, Intuition is a hopeful pop opener weaving harmonies and clean synths. Track 2, Motion has layers of gritty synth textures and drum samples created with a mix of acoustic and electronic drums performed by Turner. Stereo Path is a steady third synth track with sounds of green tree frogs and spotted owls. All is the fourth track on the album and was inspired by Royksopp and Karin Dreijer. A performer at a recent show described it as similar to “Nine Inch Nails”. Track 5, Ok is driven by distorted bass-synths, body percussion, synth arpeggios and loops of Turner’s voice. Track 6, Feeling is a feel good song about Turner’s songwriting values. Track 7, Pager is a word play poem with rock bass and drums, and colorful synth leads. On track 8, Calls, Turner’s songwriting values of patience and playfulness are reflected through the perspective of a new character with a robust voice.
Benny is a music educator, studio musician, producer, and performing artist with a background in music therapy practice. Benny sings, plays drums, synths, guitar, bass, samplers, makes field recordings, and records their music. They have collaborated in live, recorded, and multi-media experiences.
In an article Confusions continues to evolve with ‘push / back’, Andy Downing of Matter News observed songs on the self-released album (2025) "tending to mutate in subtle ways that suggest an organism going through a series of evolutionary stages.” Graeme Smith of York Calling noted how Confusions makes music “through a process of recording and editing improvisations. The result is something that’s quite unlike anything else I’ve heard, and has a deeply personal, soul-bearing quality about it.”
Indie88 described the record Grounds (2021) as “a perfectly genre-bending collection, as [they] channel lo-fi garage sounds, pop-influenced melodies, and funky rhythms. The dreamy…collection is unlike anything you’ve ever heard before, and you’ll find yourself returning to Grounds again and again.”
Confusions’ music has been featured on podcasts such as The Muckrake Political and Gaslit Nation. They have released albums with Earth Libraries, and Very Much Recordings. They have performed at Gagne Contemporary in Toronto, Saturn Birmingham, Pugfest Detroit, Happy Dog Cleveland, Columbus Museum of Art Pizzuti, and venues throughout Columbus like Spacebar, Rumba Cafe, and Rambling House. They truly don’t care much for touring. They prefer to be teaching lessons, recording new compositions, and working on simple skateboarding. Benny lives in Central OH with their wife and collaborator, Jelena Majstorovic.
They have also collaborated with Caleb Miller, Nick Weckman, John Heim, Debris, The Fossil Record, Big Fat Head, and Noah Fisher. They have worked with poets M. Jablonski, Edie Roberts, Lina Vitkauskas & Larry Sawyer. Benny has consistently worked with Brian Rogers as a visual artist for many of their records.
